Unlike baking soda which just absorbs moisture, zeolite targets the ammonia ion specifically — the primary compound responsible for that sharp, eye-watering smell. Activated EM-1® + Organic wheat bran The microbial shield Wheat bran inoculated with Dr Higa’s original EM-1 consortium — lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and phototrophic bacteria. Ammonia is alkaline, highly volatile, and the primary source of that sharp, eye-watering smell. Zeolite’s porous, honeycomb molecular structure carries a net negative charge — which attracts and holds positively charged ammonia ions at the molecular level, trapping them before they off-gas into the air. No chemical reaction, no fragrance required. It’s pure physics. When combined with the fermentative action of EM-1, which converts remaining volatile compounds into stable, odourless organic acids, you have a genuinely two-stage odour elimination system — not a cover-up. How to use Cat-Kashi 🧹 Fresh tray setup Start with a clean tray for best results 250 mL (1 cup) per tray Add your preferred litter as normal, then sprinkle 250 mL of Cat-Kashi evenly across the top. No need to mix — it will work its way in with normal use. Compatible with all litter types, though it works exceptionally well with pine pellets and other wood-based litters. 🔄 Daily maintenance sprinkle After each scoop or at least once daily 80–125 mL (⅓–½ cup) per top-up After scooping, sprinkle Cat-Kashi across the surface to replenish the microbial layer and recharge the zeolite.
