Student Oboe Reeds With All Professional Materials. Handmade From Scratch. Reed Monkey Student Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch and are a "step-up" from the Grasshopper brand. They feature all professional materials and a scrape for an unparalleled playing experience at this grade. Reeds are drawn from all premium brands based on extra sorts for student level response, aperture (reed opening) size and tone quality. This reed is typically stronger than other student reeds on the market and require some level of embouchure.Private study with a professional oboe teacher is recommended, but not essential for this model. Recommended for players with at least 6 months months experience who want to sound better while learning their ABC's of music. Note: Chiarugi professional oboe staples may not fit in beginner instruments with small wells. The Grasshopper brand (with synthetic staples) may be more suitable for these players. Please consider Grasshopper when Reed Monkey Student is out of stock. Construction/Scrape: Cane: Premium medium -medium hard strength cane from Magic Reed inventory. Staple: Standard natural cork staple. Shape: Mack-Pfeiffer or similar. Blank Length: 72.5-73 mm. Finished Reed Length: 69-70 mm. Finishing Touches: Every reed receives dozens of micro adjustments prior to shipment based on testing with an embouchure close to what is expected for players at this grade level. Tested on a Howarth XL or Loree 125 Oboe. Reed prep instructions are included. Light application of Vaseline to moisturize cork. Players encouraged to sanitize reeds upon arrival. Guaranteed against cracks and leaks or other defects that cause reed to play under grade.
