Sensual, alluring, ravishing. Inspiring and seductive. Sun-dried grasses, aromatic wildflowers and sweet ripe seed-heads, cedar-wood and ginger. Providing nectar for native butterflies, it flourishes amid the tussock and snow-grasses (Chionochloa sp.) of our Aotearoa New Zealand high country, mixing with alpine buttercups (Ranunculus sp.), spear grasses (Aciphylla sp.) and mountain flaxes (Phormium cookianum sp.) to create a deeply sensuous bouquet.The tall sword-shaped leaves of harakeke are an iconic feature of our landscape. With stems of up to four metres, tube-like flowers turning red in summer, full of nectar for native birds, this plant too is highly valued for its skin-enhancing properties.
