A WORK FROM A COMPLETED LEGACY Li Ying 李英 was a National Senior Technician, Fujian Provincial Ceramic Art Master and Nanping Arts and Crafts Master. Her Oil Drop Tea Bowl entered the collection of the National Museum of China. Li Ying has since passed away. No new works can now be created by her hand. For collectors, the surviving works represent a completed body of work — and differences in form and glaze become increasingly important within that body. HER GOLD｜李英的金 Li Ying’s gold glaze is immediately recognisable for its unusually bright, clean and refined appearance. It catches light strongly without becoming visually heavy. At different angles, the surface moves through warm bronze, muted gold and brighter metallic highlights. Gold can easily become excessive. Li Ying’s strength was making it feel composed. Bright, but not loud. Luxurious, but still refined. GOLD TO THE RIM｜全金 In this piece, “Full Gold” refers specifically to the treatment of the rim. Unlike Li Ying’s Black Gold works, LY048 has no contrasting black-glazed band around the mouth. The gold-toned glaze continues all the way to the rim. This creates a more continuous and unified visual impression. LY047 relies on contrast. LY048 relies on continuity. That difference may sound small. In the hand, it changes the whole bowl. FO DU｜佛度 The second defining feature is the unusual Fo Du form. The body expands outward into a pronounced rounded belly before drawing back towards the mouth and foot. Its measurements are approximately: 75 mm diameter × 58 mm height Maximum belly width: approx. 91 mm The 91 mm belly gives the bowl a surprisingly substantial volume despite its relatively compact mouth. Viewed from above, it appears restrained. Viewed from the side, the character changes completely. Round. Full. Sculptural. A DIFFERENT EXPRESSION OF LI YING’S GOLD For a collector, LY048 should not be chosen simply because it is another Li Ying gold bowl. Its value lies in the combination: gold extending to the rim, an unusually full Fo Du body, and Li Ying’s distinctive gold-glaze language. Among her smaller Jian Zhan, this form stands apart immediately. The artist is the same. The gold is recognisable. The silhouette is completely different.
