Gregg Tagarook Baleen Basket with Figural Finial

This is well crafted baleen basket made by Gregg Tagarook Sr. (1920-2009), one of the early weavers of baleen baskets. The ivory finial is highly unusual and really wonderful. The finial is of a hunter in a parka with his hood pushed back. He holds a black harpoon across his front with both hands. The quality of the carving is excellent. The inside ivory starting disk is signed in script "Gregg". The finial is really exceptional and this is a great baleen basket. H. to finial 2 ⅜"; H with finial 4 ⅞"; D. 3 ¾" c.1950 #9051
