Nocturne

Trees gather into a canopy. Lanterns hang low between the branches, one for every soul beneath them. The crowd stands still, faces turned upward, caught in that last stretch of light before the dark settles in. It's the moment just before something happens — a gathering, a departure, a quiet held in common. Nothing moves. Everyone is simply there, together, under the same branches, waiting for the same dusk.
