Blue Velvet, also known as Blueberry Thai, is one of the classic early members of DJ Short’s Blue family. Its ancestry traces back to Purple Thai — itself derived from Oaxacan Gold and Chocolate Thai — crossed with an Afghan Indica. The original line was known for its long branches, large striped calyxes, foxtailed flowers and lavender-to-red foliage. Its aromatic profile was described as resting between fruit and flowers, supported by a deeper hash-like Afghan background. Of the two Blue-family crosses, Blue Velvet represents the more elegant and Sativa-influenced direction. The Purple Thai ancestry brings floral complexity, exotic fruit, colour and an uplifting euphoric character, while the Afghan contribution adds resin, body and depth. My Original Haze ’90 male reinforces the old tropical Sativa side of the genetics. He contributes increased resin production, potency, THCV potential and the positive, electric and long-lasting cerebral qualities repeatedly observed in his offspring.
