Ethiopia - Beshasha / Sadi

This exceptional lot comes from Mustefa Abakeno, a dedicated smallholder farmer managing an 18-hectare farm at 2,040 meters above sea level in the Agaro region of Western Ethiopia. Mustefa works with coffee varieties sourced from the Jimma Agricultural Research Center and places a strong emphasis on quality control at every stage of production. His on-site field laboratory is equipped with a high-spec Sinar moisture meter, allowing him to carefully monitor moisture levels and ensure consistency before the coffee enters storage. His commitment to quality has also driven continued investment in local infrastructure. In Agaro, Mustefa operates a modern warehouse dedicated to milling naturally processed coffees. During the 2022 off-season, he further expanded his operations by acquiring four additional cherry purchasing sites—Echamo, Jarso, Badeyi, and Saadi—where cherries from neighboring smallholders are collected and meticulously selected. The carefully selected cherries are processed under Mustefa’s direct oversight at the Beshasha and Kabira washing stations, combining rigorous quality control with meaningful support for the surrounding coffee-growing communities. The result is a distinctly expressive Ethiopian coffee, balancing bright citrus and ripe blackberry with the sweetness of caramel and hazelnut, followed by elegant notes of black tea and dark chocolate.
