Vintage Welsh Studio Pottery ‘Llefrith’ Milk Jug

Such a gorgeous piece of Welsh studio pottery, hand-thrown in the most joyful cobalt blue glaze with ‘Llefrith’ painted across the front in wonderfully bold white lettering. The word ‘Llefrith’ - Welsh for ‘milk’. Llefrith is a word more commonly used in North Wales, whereas ‘llaeth’ is more commonly used in the South, which makes this feel like an especially lovely little piece of Welsh language and everyday culture. I love the shape of this one too: beautifully rounded and generous, with a proper little pouring lip and curved handle, and you can still see the subtle throwing lines beneath the glaze.
