Roots of the Grateful Dead
Roots of the Grateful Dead with Ian Thomas Join this repertoire class to learn the music that inspired the Grateful Dead. The Dead covered songs from a vast swath of traditional and contemporary American music. We’ll learn songs from these sources and in turn explore how the Dead interpreted and reimagined them. From blues to bluegrass to country to jug band to Appalachian balladry to Motown to folk the Grateful Dead were inspired by a melting pot of American music. All instruments are welcome. This repertoire class is best-suited for students who are already used to playing basic chords and simple melodies on their instruments. This class will use tab, notation, charts, and lyric sheets This is an adult class open to students aged 13 and up.
