Every letterform tells a story. Come find yours. Join us for a hands-on typography design workshop led by Alanna Munro, founder of Arcane Type Foundry. Alanna brings a deep, obsessive love of letterforms to her practice, designing typefaces that balance historical reference with contemporary character — and she's bringing that same eye to Porchlight for an afternoon of exploration and design. In this workshop, you'll start by browsing Porchlight's extensive and beautiful collection of wood type — decades of letterforms in a range of styles, weights, and eras. Pick one letter that speaks to you, then use it as your jumping-off point to sketch and design your own original typeface. Alanna will guide you through the fundamentals of letterform construction — stroke weight, proportion, counters, and rhythm — helping you develop an eye for typography as you shape your letter into a small type study of your own. No design experience necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to look closely at the shapes of letters.
