Dutch Couple in Traditional Clothing - Original Hand-Colored French Engraving in Vintage Frame
We are pleased to offer a selection of vintage art sourced by our founders Don and John during their travels. Here, a wonderful early engraving of a Dutch couple in traditional costume posed in a landscape. The exceptional hand-applied color details make this a really special piece. We especially love the attention to fine details on the two faces - just look at those rosy cheeks! This original engraving was printed by Engelmann et Cie, a well known French lithography studio in the 1800's. The text at the bottom in both French and Dutch reads: peasant and peasant woman of the Isle of Zuid Beveland. The coordinating matte in a hand-painted blue plaid pattern was created specifically for this engraving in the PATCH NYC studio. The vintage frame is wood with a narrow metallic gold inset. Original hand-colored French engraving on paper with hand-painted coordinating matte under glass in a vintage wood frame. Frame measures about 14.25"h x 11"w. Image (within matte window) measures about 9.75"h x 7.25"w. Please note: This is a one-of-a-kind, unique piece and it is FINAL SALE so review all photos and please email with any questions. This engraving and frame will have small imperfections due to age but we think this adds to the vintage charm & character.
