I always love to give a twist to old traditions, and my version weaves those bitter foundations together with botanicals chosen especially for Samhain. Dark berries, warming cacao, earthy mushroom, bitter roots, citrus, juniper and herbs that feel right at home in the turning season. The result is a rich botanical brew that can be made with vodka or a clear spirit for a cleaner herbal expression, but my favorite is to craft it with brandy or bourbon for something warmer, darker and more well-rounded. Amaro is revered as a historical bitter, traditionally enjoyed as a digestif after a meal. This botanical libation is a potent portal remedy that helps stir digestion, warm the body & conjure connection. 🌿CRAFT YOUR OLD WORLD LIBATION (same notes on label) COVER • Fill jar, covering herbs with a clear spirit or brandy, leave half inch headspace. INFUSE • Let the herbs steep for 1–2 weeks. Shake the brew often, topping off with more spirit if needed. Add a label or piece of tape to the bottom of the jar to write the infusion & strain dates. STRAIN • Use muslin bag to strain out herbs & funnel to decant into ritual bottles. Add a splash of fresh spirit if too strong. ENJOY • Your Amaro is crafted! Add salt and sugar from the vials to taste. Sip neat, over ice, or diluted to your liking. Enjoy as a digestif, in ritual and on Sacred Sabbaths.
