Pieve Santa Restituta Rosso di Montalcino 2024 750ml
Pieve Santa Restituta is the Montalcino estate of the Gaja family, acquired in 1994 as the family's first venture outside Piedmont. Named after the ancient parish church at the heart of the property, the estate later expanded its vineyard holdings in 2006 and is best known for its Brunello di Montalcino. The 2024 is the estate's first release under the Rosso di Montalcino appellation, offering an earlier drinking expression of the same Sangiovese country. It is made entirely from Sangiovese grown on the stony, chalky, low-nutrient soils that suit the variety so well around Montalcino, and is fermented and matured in a combination of wood and concrete. Expect a dry, medium-bodied red with sour cherry, dried herbs and a hint of tobacco, framed by the iron-tinged minerality typical of the area. It is approachable now, with the freshness and structure to sit comfortably at the table with roast meats, pasta and hard cheeses. Vintages may vary.
