Community Money Jar November
Community Money Jar – November: The Living Veil November’s theme is The Living Veil, a month devoted to the enduring relationship between the living and the dead, ancestral remembrance, the mysteries of passage between worlds, and gratitude for the lives that came before our own. This month’s Community Money Jar turns toward one of the most tangible forms of ancestral inheritance: the labor, resourcefulness, sacrifices, and financial wisdom that helped previous generations survive and made our own lives possible. Every family has a history of provision. Somewhere in our family lines were people who planted crops, practiced trades, operated businesses, cooked for others, worked long hours, saved their earnings, acquired property, or found extraordinary ways to make limited resources stretch. Some accumulated wealth, while others struggled throughout their lives to keep their households fed and sheltered. Their experiences left behind lessons about money, opportunity, perseverance, and the importance of building something that can endure beyond a single lifetime. This working is for those seeking increased income, business growth, steady employment, profitable opportunities, financial stability, debt relief, improved cash flow, or greater success in their professional endeavors. It is also appropriate for those working toward long-term goals such as purchasing property, establishing savings, building a business, providing for their children, or creating financial security that can benefit future generations. The jar will be built with bayberry for prosperity and financial blessing; alfalfa to guard against poverty and help keep resources within the household; five-finger grass to bless the work of your hands and encourage favorable outcomes; cinnamon to bring movement and opportunity to money matters; sassafras for money drawing and accumulation; and patchouli to strengthen material prosperity. Magnetic sand will be added to attract income, customers, useful connections, and profitable opportunities toward the petitions placed within the jar. Each petition will be written by hand and dressed with Money Drawing Oil before being placed into the jar. Green and gold candles will be worked over it throughout November. Green will carry money drawing, steady income, financial growth, and prosperity, while gold will support success, recognition, advancement, and profitable opportunities. Psalms 23 and 65 will be prayed over the work for provision, fruitful labor, and abundance. In keeping with The Living Veil, a place of remembrance will be prepared for the industrious and resourceful dead: the ancestors who worked the land, kept businesses running, practiced skilled trades, managed households, saved what they could, and found ways to provide during difficult times. Fresh water and prayer will be offered in gratitude for the labor that sustained their families and the opportunities their efforts helped create for those who followed. November’s work will also explore the idea of wealth as something that extends beyond the individual. The dead leave many kinds of inheritance. Some leave property, savings, businesses, or possessions. Others leave practical knowledge, a trade, a reputation, a family recipe, an education, or the example of remarkable determination. Even when little material wealth remains, the lessons learned through a lifetime of work can become valuable resources for the living. Within Hoodoo, prosperity work has long addressed the immediate realities of making a living. Money drawing, business success, gambling luck, employment, and keeping money in the household all belong to the tradition. This month, those familiar concerns will be approached through the lens of ancestral gratitude, with particular attention to the opportunities we have inherited and the responsibilities we carry toward those who will come after us. The Living Veil also reminds us that our time to build, work, save, give, and enjoy the fruits of our labor is finite. Remembering the dead can sharpen our appreciation for the present and encourage us to use our resources with greater purpose. Financial prosperity can provide comfort today while also creating possibilities for people whose lives we may never live to see. November’s Money Jar will therefore be worked for profitable opportunities, increased income, successful endeavors, and the steady growth of material security. We will honor the labor of those who came before us while asking that our own efforts bear good fruit and that what we build may become a blessing to others. Suggested Alignment During November, place a glass of fresh water beside a photograph or written name of a deceased ancestor you remember as hardworking, resourceful, generous, or particularly skilled at providing for the family. Place a coin or dollar beside the water as a symbol of the resources that sustain the living. Read Psalm 23 and say: “I give thanks for the hands that labored before mine, for the sacrifices that helped bring me into this world, and for the knowledge that has been passed into my keeping. Bless the work of my hands. Open the roads to honest prosperity, fruitful opportunities, and lasting security. May I use what comes to me wisely, enjoy the blessings of this life, and leave something good for those who follow.” Choose one practical financial action to complete during the month. Put money into savings, pay down an obligation, contact a prospective customer, apply for a better position, organize your business records, or begin planning something that could provide long-term security. The Living Veil is also an opportunity to preserve a piece of your family’s financial history. Ask about an ancestor’s occupation, a family business, a piece of land, an old trade, or the ways earlier generations supported themselves. Write down what you learn. The knowledge of how our people made their living deserves to be remembered alongside their names. To Be Included Send your full name, date of birth, and a short money petition describing what you would like addressed during November. You may petition for employment, increased sales, business growth, additional income, financial stability, debt relief, profitable opportunities, savings, property, or another specific financial goal. You may also include the name of a deceased ancestor whose industry, resourcefulness, or financial wisdom you wish to honor in your personal prayers during The Living Veil.
