Lanna (work-in-progress)

Moving between speculative archaeology, cuneiform storytelling and artificial intelligence, the work looks to ancient systems of knowledge as a way of thinking through contemporary technologies. At its centre is the Sumerian concept of the me 𒈨 — divine powers or ordinances associated with the ordering of cultural and social life — continuing Al-Badri’s wider exploration of how technologies can mediate, reconstruct and reimagine cultural memory. “I woman, daughter, maiden, Dingir, priestess, queen.
