Your Presence Is A Gift

When I was thinking about this collection, The Presence Collection, I kept coming back to how the real treasure of the holidays (and throughout the year!) is getting to spend time with the people you love. Being truly present with them. This image came to me as a representation of what it feels like to be fully present, heart aglow. Intuitively, the spruce sprigs felt right surrounding the heart. A symbol of eternal presence. But it took me nearly a dozen attempts to draw them — first from memory, then from photographs, and finally through up-close observation — to understand and accurately depict the true spiral structure of the needles before I was satisfied.
