Old Soul Plates XXXVIX
(Sold separately) Two antique German Majolica plates of the “Birds & Grapes” design. They were made by the Zell Majolica Factory at the height of the Georg Schmider production era in the Art Nouveau style, between 1907 and 1928. The factory made this designs mostly in blues and greens and these ivory base ones are rarer to find. It has raised relief motifs featuring two birds perched among green grape leaves and clusters of purple grapes, finished with a scalloped, brownish-tinted rim. The designs details are crisp because it is an early piece from this mould, and hand-applied glaze is in perfect condition despite its age. Approximate dimensions : 7.4 inches in diameter, 2 cm in depth. One piece is 253 grams and one is 290 grams in weight.
