RDL RU-SM16A – 2-Channel LED Audio Level Meter
What is the RDL RU-SM16A?The RDL RU-SM16A is a two-channel audio level meter with 16-LED displays for precise metering in stereo or as two independent mono meters. Each input can be calibrated for consumer, professional, 8 ohm speaker or 25 V, 70 V and 100 V constant-voltage lines. Peak or average metering is selectable per channel, and the top three LEDs act as peak-hold indicators. How does it work? The RU-SM16A has two separate inputs on detachable terminal blocks, each with input impedance above 40 kΩ. Each input can be calibrated for unbalanced consumer, balanced professional, 8 ohm speaker or constant-voltage speaker lines. A rear-panel switch selects fixed calibration at +4 dBu, 25 V, 70 V or 100 V, or variable calibration set with front-panel multi-turn trimmers. Rear-panel switches set each meter for peak or average display. In mono systems, feeding one source to both meters with one set to peak and one to average shows both responses at once. The +10, +14 and +18 LEDs always operate in PEAK HOLD mode. Each channel has a label area to identify the source being metered. The module runs on 24 Vdc at 250 mA; RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international), and it rack mounts with the RDL RU-HRA1.What are the key features? 16-LED displays — Precise level indication from SIG to +18. Stereo or dual mono — Two independent meters or one stereo meter. Wide input compatibility — Line level, 8 ohm speaker or 25/70/100 V lines. Fixed or variable calibration — Preset levels or front-panel multi-turn trimmers. Peak or average — Selectable ballistics for each channel. Peak hold — +10, +14 and +18 LEDs hold peaks.
