California Poppy

California poppy has been the symbol of the dead and of sleep since antiquity. The Egyptians included poppies at funerals and in burial times. The Greeks used poppies in the shrines of Demeter, the goddess of fertility and Dana, the goddess of the hunt. This drawing is from the 100 Days of Flowers projected completed in 2015.
