Victorian 18ct Yellow Gold & Silver Starburst Brooch, Circa 1870.
Dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian era, this striking brooch is a beautiful piece of antique jewellery that rewards attention from every angle. Designed as a floral starburst panel, it has a elegance that is hard to ignore. Old cut diamonds radiate outward in graduated claw settings, totalling an estimated 3.77ct across the piece. Ranging in colour from H to L and clarity VS2 to P2, the stones carry that warm, soft sparkle so characteristic of old cut diamonds — quite different from the sharp brilliance of a modern cut, and all the more charming for it. At 35x30mm it has a pleasing presence without being excessive. Turn it over, however, and an added surprise reveals itself — the reverse is a wonderfully intricate construction that bears an uncanny resemblance to a fine watch movement. It is the kind of detail that speaks to the skill and care that went into making pieces like this, at a time when the back of a brooch was considered just as worthy of attention as the front. A genuinely special piece for anyone who appreciates the craft behind antique jewellery. Measurement: 35x30mm SKU Z35
