Socks from a Tube with Angela
Would you like to learn how to create a finished pair of socks from a pre-knit sock tube? In this class you will take a 64 or 72 stitch circular pre-knit tube of knitting and learn how to mark where to cut into your knitting to put in heels, toes, and second sock. You will also learn how to knit the cuffs and heels. By the end of this workshop you will feel confident measuring your tube of knitting to create a pair of socks to fit your desired recipient. If you have ever wanted to be a sock knitter but haven’t liked the slog of knitting legs and feet of socks, this is a great way to have a completed pair of socks without having to knit the whole thing. Summer Quarter session: June 27 -- 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Skills you will learn: Learn how to measure, mark and cut a sock tube. Learn how to pick up stitches and decrease to create heels and toes. Skills you already need to have: Basic knitting in the round, decreasing & picking up stitches, kitchener stitch Materials to bring to class: A sock tube (this can be purchased in store before June 19, 2026, you will need to choose either a 64 or 72 stitch option) Fingering weight sock yarn to knit the heels, toes, and cuffs of the sock. I recommend at least 40g. Knitting needles in your preferred sock knitting style (dpns, circulars, flexi-needles, magic-loop) and size (I recommend a US 1, but you may need a US 1.5 or US 2 if you are a tight knitter). Also, keep in mind if you are using smaller circulars, you may want to have more than 1 needle to make knitting the heel and toe easier. Foot measurements (length, and circumference) Having a cardboard cut out of your foot can be quite helpful. Measuring Tape, Tapestry needle, 10-20 Locking bulb Stitch markers, small scissors (sharp with tiny tips)
