Mix-In Method: Blend directly into the final coat for a more uniform texture and appearance while improving slip resistance. Why Use a Non-Slip Additive? Smooth floor coatings can become slippery when exposed to water, oil, cleaning solutions, or heavy foot traffic. Adding a non-slip additive helps increase surface traction, creating a safer walking surface for employees, customers, family members, and guests. Designed for demanding residential, commercial, and industrial environments, this additive helps improve safety while preserving the durability and performance of your floor coating system. How to Use 54 Grit Aluminum Oxide Anti-Slip Additive Product Overview 54 Grit Aluminum Oxide is a durable, industrial-grade anti-slip additive designed to improve traction on epoxy, polyaspartic, urethane, and other floor coating systems. It helps create a safer walking surface in garages, workshops, warehouses, commercial spaces, patios, pool decks, and other areas where slip resistance is desired. Method 1: Broadcast Into Wet Coating (Maximum Slip Resistance) This method provides the highest level of slip resistance. Step 1: Apply Your Coating Apply your epoxy, polyaspartic, or clear topcoat according to the manufacturer's instructions. Step 2: Broadcast Aluminum Oxide While the coating is still wet, evenly broadcast the 54 Grit Aluminum Oxide over the surface by hand or using a seed spreader. Typical Application Rate: Light Texture: 2–4 oz per 100 sq. ft. Medium Texture: 6–8 oz per 100 sq. ft. Heavy Texture: 10–16 oz per 100 sq. ft. Step 3: Allow Coating to Cure Allow the coating to fully cure according to product specifications. Step 4: Remove Excess Material After curing, sweep or vacuum any loose aluminum oxide from the surface. Step 5: Apply a Seal Coat (Recommended) Apply a clear topcoat over the broadcast aluminum oxide to encapsulate the particles while maintaining excellent slip resistance. Method 2: Mix Into the Final Topcoat This method provides a more uniform appearance while still improving traction. Step 1: Mix Coating Components Mix your coating according to the product instructions. Step 2: Add Aluminum Oxide Slowly add the 54 Grit Aluminum Oxide while mixing. Recommended Loading: Light Anti-Slip Finish: 2–4 oz per gallon Medium Anti-Slip Finish: 4–8 oz per gallon Aggressive Anti-Slip Finish: 8–12 oz per gallon Step 3: Mix Thoroughly Mix for 1–2 minutes until the additive is evenly dispersed throughout the coating. Step 4: Apply Immediately Apply using a roller or squeegee. Continue stirring occasionally to prevent the additive from settling to the bottom of the container. Recommended Applications ✅ Garage Floors ✅ Commercial Kitchens ✅ Warehouses ✅ Workshops ✅ Loading Docks ✅ Pool Decks ✅ Patios ✅ Walkways ✅ Industrial Facilities Important Tips Always wear safety glasses and a dust mask when handling dry aluminum oxide. Stir frequently when mixing directly into coatings to prevent settling. Test a small area first to determine the desired texture level. More additive equals greater slip resistance but a rougher surface. For decorative flake floors, aluminum oxide is typically applied into the final clear topcoat. Coverage Guide Container Size Light Texture Medium Texture Heavy Texture 2 lb Up to 1,600 sq. ft. Up to 800 sq. ft. Up to 400 sq. ft. 10 lb Up to 8,000 sq. ft. Up to 4,000 sq. ft. Up to 2,000 sq. ft. 50 lb Up to 40,000 sq. ft. Up to 20,000 sq. ft. Up to 10,000 sq. ft. Pro Tip for Flake Floors For epoxy flake floors, apply your flake system as normal, scrape and vacuum the floor, then add the 54 Grit Aluminum Oxide to the final clear polyaspartic topcoat for increased traction without significantly affecting the appearance of the floor.
