Burfoot Roan

This dahlia originated right here at Burfoot Flowers, and you’ll only find it here for it’s 2026 release! The first time I saw BF Roan bloom in my garden, I was utterly stunned by its complexity and depth. Each strawberry-flecked petal is softly pinstriped, with a glowing violet reverse. In my PNW garden and field, mid-season blooms develop a beautiful creamy-tan fade, adding even more depth. For all its complexity, Roan is wonderfully versatile-- it slips seamlessly into our favorite color palettes, but is rarely outshined. Blooms average 5” across, and are gently cupped with thick, sturdy petals and an exceptionally strong attachment to a dark, solid stem. It’s one of my favorite varieties to build bouquets around, thanks to its balance of beauty and strength. Centers are reliably closed, often green in immature blooms and setting off the violet petal reverse. Plants are tidy, handsome, and sturdy, reaching 4–5 feet tall and performing beautifully in the field and garden alike. This dahlia hasn’t been tested in a diversity of growing environments.
