Headaches and Migraines
Understanding Headaches and Migraines Why they happen, and what plants can do about them. This live event takes place on Monday, 1st June 2026. Headaches are one of the most common kinds of pain, and one of the least well explained. Most of us have lived with them at some point. Some of us live with them often. There are medications that help, up to a point. But the question of what is actually going on inside the head, and why, is one most people are sent home without an answer to. This Herb Hour looks at that question properly, and at what plants and other home measures can do about it. What's covered in this session The main types of head pain, and how to tell them apart What we now know about the mechanisms behind common headaches How traditional plant remedies work on those mechanisms A closer look at migraines and cluster headaches - the most distressing of all Plant foods, herbs, and lifestyle measures that show real promise What to try at home, and when to seek further help What makes this different Most advice on headaches stops at the medicine cabinet. Take this, avoid that, come back if it gets worse. This session goes further. For the first time, we have enough understanding of both the biology of head pain and the way plant-based remedies act on the body to connect the two. We can begin to see why old approaches worked, and where new prospects for relief lie. It is taught by Simon Mills, a medical herbalist with decades of experience translating the science of plants into something useful for ordinary people. He has spent a working lifetime making sense of what plants do and how to use them well. This isn't a lecture in pharmacology. It's a practical hour for anyone who wants to understand their own head better. Who this is for This IS for you if: You get headaches and want to understand why You have a partner, child, or parent who suffers from migraines or cluster headaches You'd like to know what plant remedies can genuinely help, and which can't You want to make sense of the latest thinking, in plain language This is NOT for you if: You're looking for a single miracle cure You're not interested in understanding what's going on What you'll get A live one-hour Zoom session with Simon Mills A chance to ask questions during the session A recording to revisit afterwards, in your own time Practical, plant-based suggestions you can begin to try at home About Simon Mills Simon Mills has practised herbal medicine in Exeter since 1977. He co-authored key herbal medicine texts still used worldwide, co-founded the UK's first university centre for complementary health, and helped shape the country's first integrated medical school curriculum. He's also advised both the Government and the House of Lords on herbal medicine policy. His focus today is simple: helping ordinary people use plants to take care of themselves and their families.
