Vintage, 1950s brown old-mine cut diamond solitaire ring
Provenance Originating from the United Kingdom, this piece dates to c.1950s. However, the stone itself is much older. This is an old-mine cut diamond. The word old-mine is used to describe diamonds that came from India or brazil, the first two known diamond deposits in the world. Cushion old mine-cut diamonds are among the earliest diamond cuts, prized for their soft, romantic glow as opposed to the harsh twinkling of modern, laser-cut diamonds. They are defined by their gently rounded, cushion-shaped outline, high crown and broad, hand-cut facets. No two are ever identical, and this is the beauty of them, imperfectly perfect, individual and full of antique charm! This old-mine diamond is particularly rare as it is a fancy light brown colour, comparable to champagne these stones are scarce and highly sought after. A timeless solitaire design but with a unique character and charming glow!
