Apply for your QLD Reptile Licence Here How to Apply for your Reptile Licence The Black Headed Python (Aspidites melanocephalus) is well known in the hobby for it's distinctive appearance with its shiny black head and yellow to beige coloured body, striped with orange to brown bands. They can grow to a length of up to 3 metres so be sure to get them a good size enclosure as an adult! They natively live in the dry coastal forests, rocky hills and peripheral desert regions of Northern Australia, from the north-west coast of Western Australia to Queensland. While this python is often mistaken for a venomous snake, in the wild it actually feeds on large venomous snakes like the King Brown. Instead of basking in the sun to warm its body and exposing itself to predators, the Black-headed Python only protrudes its head out of its burrow.
