Kimono Dress Gown and string belt upcycled from Genuine vintage Japanese kimono This piece was created from a vintage Furisode (振袖), a highly formal silk kimono traditionally worn by unmarried women on special occasions in Japan. The original garment has been carefully reimagined as a contemporary gown, preserving the beauty and craftsmanship of the vintage textile. Our vision is to give vintage kimono a new life as elegant outerwear—pieces that can be worn, appreciated, and integrated into contemporary wardrobes around the world. This fabric is called "shibori" 絞り Kimonos are dyed and embroidered using a variety of techniques, one of which is the “tie-dyeing” technique. This is a technique in which fabrics are dyed by binding them with threads or sandwiched with a device to prevent dyeing, and then dyed with dyestuffs to create complex patterns. I and the sewing team upcycled this kimono piece.
