This rare Republic-era antique erhu is crafted from premium Indian sandalwood and represents a highly collectible piece of traditional Chinese instrument history. One of its most distinctive features is the mammoth ivory-style inlay, showcasing refined craftsmanship rarely seen in modern instruments. The overall construction reflects the high standards of early Huqin making. The instrument measures 78 cm in total length, with an extended resonator that is approximately 3 cm longer than modern erhus. This structural difference contributes to its unique tonal flexibility. Unlike standard erhus, this instrument offers a hybrid tonal character. It naturally blends the warm depth of an erhu with the brighter, more penetrating qualities of a gaohu. With proper string and bridge adjustments, it can produce tonal colors resembling erhu, gaohu, and even yuehu styles. The original body remains intact and well-preserved. It has been upgraded with a new snakeskin and professional-grade accessories, ensuring reliable performance for decades to come.
