Vintage Black Wavy Pedestal Bowl

A hand-thrown stoneware pedestal bowl, 11 inches wide and 8.5 inches tall, with a ruffled petal-edged rim and a matte black exterior that breaks open to a deep cobalt blue interior. The contrast between the two glazes is quiet from across the room and surprising up close. The stoneware is substantial on its foot, the form opening wide and loosely as it rises. The ruffled rim has the kind of movement that is hard to achieve and easy to appreciate. The matte black glaze is speckled and textural, with the cobalt pooling where it meets the rim and running slightly down the exterior in a few places. Unmarked on the base.
