A superb quality, wonderfully decorative pottery vase after an Ancient Greek example of Archaic style, and exquisitely modelled as a cheeky bearded Satyr’s head. Now fitted as lamp. A wonderful example of superb craftsmanship, informed by a passion for the Ancient decorative arts. A similarly decorated ancient cup is held at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio. Satyrs occupy a delightful moral grey zone in Greek mythology — being not gods and not men, they are creatures gloriously devoted to pleasure, often associated with Dionysos, the god of wine.
