Orange Touch-Me-Not - Impatiens Capensis Orange Touch-Me-Not, commonly known as Orange Jewelweed boasts vibrant clusters of small orange-red trumpet-shaped flowers with a curving nectar spur. Flowers bloom from June to October. Jewelweed features succulent stems that are reddish green and nearly translucent. Smooth, lush oval leaves emerge in an alternate pattern. The seed pods pop open from the slightest touch to spread their seeds away from the mother plant. This annual herbaceous plant is native to North America and can be found in damp woodland areas, along stream banks, and in wet meadows. Aside from its visual appeal, Jewelweed holds significant benefits for wildlife. The plant acts as a magnet for various creatures, particularly hummingbirds, moths, butterflies and bees which are attracted to its nectar-rich flowers. Birds find nourishment in the seeds. The flower is of special interest to the White-Striped Black Moth. Jewelweed thrives in specific conditions that are favorable for its growth and development. This plant prefers areas with a fair bit of moisture and loamy soil with good drainage. It is often found along shady stream banks and in low forested wetland area.
