The Perfect Gift
A seser is a traditional scarf handwoven on a backstrap loom and made with locally grown cotton in East Java. This particularly unique cloth was repeated dyed with the bark of the sustainably harvested mangrove species Ceriops tagal to obtain the deep rust. A plant mordant Symplocos that is sustainably harvested by Threads of Life in Flores was then repeatedly applied along with applications of mud dye with tannins painted onto the ends of the cloth creating this elegant mix of rust and brown black. Plain weave, single panel, twisted fringes, handspun cotton with natural dyes. Handwoven in Java, natural dyed Threads of LIife dye studio in Bali, Indonesia.
