These are sold as chawan (teabowls) but they are just as well used as rice bowls or cereal bowls. The rough texture of the woodgrain pattern on the outside lets the gold of the manganese glaze pool and collect around the rim. These are not all symmetrical and are sometimes slightly off-kilter.
