Antique Chinese Peach of Immortality Altar Offering Alongside spiritual icons and incense burners, altars used for ancestor worship were ritually laden with offerings of food and ripe fruits. Known as an offering fruit, this ceramic peach would have been used as an evergreen alternative to fresh fruits during cold seasons. Considered an auspicious Buddhist offering and a symbol and wish for immortality. Most famously, the peaches grown by the goddess Xi Wangmu in the Kunlun mountains proffered Immortality to the recipients. This offering is a wish for long life. Dated to the late 19th or early 20th century, the peach figurine is brushed with russet and aubergine glaze and adds a pop of bright color to a bookcase or table arrangement. Size: 6 inches x 6 inches
