Estrellita means little star in Spanish, and this hybrid earns the name. Created by the hybridizers at Rainbow Carnivorous Plants, it is a cross between *P. ehlersiae* and *P. mesophytica*, combining the best traits of two outstanding Mexican species into one compact, high-performing plant. The rosettes are pale green under lower light but blush a soft ballet slipper pink under bright conditions, making it one of the most visually rewarding butterworts you can grow indoors. Every leaf is covered in sticky glands that passively trap fungus gnats, fruit flies, and other small insects — no effort required on your part. When in flower, “Estrellita” produces striking blossoms that highlight the best of both parents: the dainty form of *P. ehlersiae* and the color intensity of *P. mesophytica*. As a Mexican butterwort, it makes an excellent houseplant and is among the easiest carnivorous plants to grow. It thrives on a bright windowsill or under LED grow lights, tolerates low humidity far better than most carnivores, and asks very little in return. During the summer growing season it produces full carnivorous foliage; in winter the rosette shifts to tighter, more succulent leaves and prefers drier conditions. A perfect entry point for new growers and a rewarding addition to any serious collection. ----- ## Care at a Glance **Light** — Bright indirect to direct; intense light triggers pink coloration **Water** — Distilled, rainwater, or RO only; tray method during active growth **Soil** — Well-draining, low-nutrient mix; perlite-heavy or purpose-made Pinguicula blend **Temperature** — 60 to 85°F; no frost tolerance **Dormancy** — Reduce watering in winter when succulent leaves appear **Humidity** — Adaptable; no terrarium required ----- ## Shipping Your plant arrives bare root, carefully packed for safe transit. Pot it up upon arrival in a well-draining, low-nutrient mix. A perlite-heavy or purpose-made Pinguicula blend works perfectly. If your order arrives in winter, the plant may be in its succulent dormancy phase with smaller, tighter leaves. This is normal. Do not overwater during this period.
