Red Cherry Rasbora (Rasbora Lacrimula) The Red Cherry Rasbora originates from the Mahakam drainage in Kalimantan Timur, Borneo, Indonesia, where it can be found in clear, shallow forest streams with a sandy or muddy substrate and some marginal vegetation. This fish is a peaceful midwater shoaling species that thrives best in groups of six or more. A mature, well-planted tank would be perfect for showcasing this species, as their colors become more vibrant when they are settled in a lush environment. Choosing a dark substrate and background, along with some delicate driftwood, will also aid in their acclimatization. Tankmates should be of similar size and temperament, enjoying the same soft, acidic conditions. R. lacrimula is unique among its genus due to a line of tiny tubercles that create a granulated ‘crest’ along the dorsal surface behind the dorsal fin, extending onto the upper edge of the caudal fin, along with a color pattern that features a faint midlateral stripe that culminates in a teardrop-shaped blotch oriented longitudinally. It may also be available for purchase as the Borneo Redfin Rasbora.
