Ashdown's Shadowed Spires
There is a hush peculiar to old stone passageways, the green that gathers in shadow before any door opens onto light. Here, that hush is built from fracture: tall, pointed forms lean into each other, ivory caught between deep spruce and a paler, mineral grey, as if a forest had been pressed flat and abstracted into planes. Hand-knotted by the weavers of Jodhpur, the wool holds a soft, even nap through the darker greens, while the paler shapes carry the faintest sheen, like light caught between branches. Laid across an entrance hall, its tall geometry holds its own beneath a Georgian cornice, or against the bare height of a concrete ceiling, neither raised voice nor retreat. In a Mayfair townhouse, hallway light narrowing the way it does between trees, the floor keeps the hush of a forest indoors.
