This vessel is based on a Shino tea bowl from the Azuchi–Momoyama period. It was fired in a wood-fired kiln in Oishida, Yamagata Prefecture. Through the wood firing, ash fell onto the surface, changing the original white colour associated with Shino ware. As this piece was placed in an area where it was less exposed to ash, it developed a gentle reddish tone across the surface.
