Self Bailer Valve

The Self Bailer Valve (SBV) set turns the fixed drain holes in a Viking EVO floor into scupper valves you can open or close yourself. Close them and the floor seals, so water stays out of the hull on flat stretches and cold crossings. Open them and the boat drains continuously the way a self-bailer should. Every scupper sits at the front of the boat, within arm’s reach, so switching between the two is a matter of flipping a cap rather than pulling over to the bank. Each cap is tethered to a webbing strip on the floor, so it stays with the boat when it is open. The set ships as a DIY retrofit kit for the Viking EVO and the tandem Viking EVO X2. A scupper valve adds a sealing cap over that hole, so the paddler decides whether it drains or stays shut — open for whitewater, closed for flat or cold water. Which packrafts does the Self Bailer Valve set fit? The Viking EVO and the Viking EVO X2 only. It is not a fit for the standard Viking Self Bailer, which uses a different floor and drainage layout, and it does not apply to sealed-deck packrafts such as the Alligator 2S Pro, which keep water out with a spraydeck rather than draining it through the floor. Can I install the set myself? Yes — it is supplied as a DIY retrofit set, which is what the kit is designed for. Follow the instruction sheet supplied with the set. If you would rather not fit it yourself, contact us before ordering. Should I remove the baffle beneath the scupper holes? Only if the boat is used primarily for creeking. Removing the baffle significantly improves drainage efficiency, but the change is permanent — it suits boats that live in steep, continuously wet water rather than mixed flat-water days. How do I keep the valves sealing well? Rinse the valves and the floor around them with clean freshwater after silty or salty water, and wipe sand off the flange and the underside of the cap before closing a valve. Grit left in the valve seat is the usual reason a closed cap starts to seep.
