Professional Firefighter Radio Strap Set Leatherworking Class Learn the techniques behind building professional-grade fire service leather gear from one of the early pioneers of the custom firefighter radio strap. FD Leatherworks was among the first makers to bring truly custom leather radio straps into the fire service, and through decades of experience, innovation, and influence on other makers, I have become known by many within the craft as “the Godfather of the Custom Radio Strap.” In this hands-on class, you’ll build a complete leather radio strap, radio case, and anti-sway strap while learning the fundamentals of producing durable, functional fire-service leather gear. Instruction includes leather selection and preparation, pattern layout, cutting, name stamping, painting and finishing lettering, edge work, hardware installation, assembly, machine stitching, and final finishing. You’ll also receive a practical introduction to the heavy-duty harness sewing machine, including machine setup and operation, needle and thread selection, stitch length, tension, and techniques for properly sewing heavy leather. Beyond the bench, we’ll discuss the business of leatherworking—including pricing your work, presenting a professional product, building a reputation, and marketing and selling your leather goods to firefighters, departments, and the general public. All leather, hardware, and materials are included, and no previous leatherworking experience is required. You’ll leave with your own completed radio strap set along with practical knowledge, techniques, and insight gained from years of producing custom leather gear for the fire service. Class is from 8am-4pm but could run over if everyone doesn't finish by 4pm Classes are NON-REFUNDABLE but never expire
