First Aid Response PHECC (FAR) - GORT

Venue: Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort. Successful trainees are awarded a nationally recognised certificate issued by the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) and it is valid for two years. Training is classroom based and takes place over a three day period. After the theory and demonstrations, all candidates must undergo an assessment which is both Practical and Written. All candidates must be present for all three days to qualify for assessment. Courses are delivered by experienced PHECC qulified instructors. Times: Courses run between the times of 9.30am to 5pm. All courses must be at least 18 hours in duration. Course Content : Unit 1: Patient Assessment Unit 2: Cardiac First Response – Community Unit 3: Common Medical Emergencies Unit 4: Injury Management and Shock Unit 5: Care of the Unconscious Patient Unit 6: Burns and Electrical Injury Care Unit 7: Information Management Unit 8: Hypothermia and Hyperthermia Unit 9: The Well-Being of the First Aid Responder Unit 10: Communications There is an assessment at the end of the course but also continual assessment throughout. The student will be assessed on theory skills, MCQ, multiple choice questions, and practical assessments such as the ability to demonstrate treatment of bleeding and trauma, and medical conditions. Students will also be assessed on their CPR and defibrillator skills. On completion of the course, students will receive a two-year nationally recognised certificate. Refresher training must be completed within two years of completion of the course. Students must be 18 years of age and have a good comprehension of the English language. Who should have this course? The HSA outlines how many first-aiders you should have in your workplace. This is decided on by how many employees, and risk factors within the business, distance from business and definitive medical attention. The number of occupational first aiders is determined by company size, employee count, workplace hazards, medical access, off-site workers, and isolated locations. What does a first aid responder do? Certified First Responder Responsibilities: • Open and maintain an airway. • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). • Provide emergency medical care for simple and multiple system trauma, including: o Controlling haemorrhage. o Bandaging wounds. o Manually stabilising injured extremities. Upon completion of the First Aid Response course participants will be able to: • Recognise and assess the causes and effects of sudden illness and/or injury in a pre-hospital environment and call for emergency first aid care. • React to such pre-hospital emergencies • Respond in a safe, effective and appropriate manner to such emergencies utilising the First Aid Response skillset • Record and report actions and interventions taken while responding to and managing such incidents and during handover to emergency medical services • Retain a professional and caring attitude in your performance as a First Aid Responder.
