Sample Itinerary DAY 1: Lahad Datu/ Tabin Wildlife Reserve/ Lipad Mud Volcano Trekking Start with a pickup from Lahad Datu, followed by a scenic drive to Tabin Wildlife Reserve – a 44km drive that should take about 1 hour 15 minutes. Check-in to a timber lodge at Tabin Wildlife Resort, equipped with a private balcony, ceiling fan, and heated shower. Explore the resort, surrounded by diverse wildlife and verdant rainforest, and learn about the local medicinal herbs that can be found in the jungle. In the afternoon, trek to the Lipad Mud Volcano, a mineral salt lick and wildlife hotspot, and ascend the observation tower for birdwatching. After dinner, enjoy a slide presentation on Tabin’s natural wonders before embarking on a night safari drive to spot nocturnal wildlife. Day 2: Bird Watching / Guided Trek / Lipad Waterfall Rise bright and early for a morning bird walk – there are around 42 indigenous families of more than 300 avian species that call Tabin home. After breakfast, hike to Lipad Waterfall where you can bask in the cascading water, take a dip, or relax in the tranquil environment. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure or treat yourself to a Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak – a delightful blend of natural herbs designed to soothe and stimulate the feet, enhance blood circulation, and rejuvenate both body and mind. Day 3: Danum Valley Field Centre / Guided Walk After breakfast, check out of Tabin Wildlife Resort and transfer to Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) – the 129km drive should take about 3 hours to complete. Register at DVFC Reception upon arrival and discuss activity options with your guide – your itinerary can be tailored according to your interests. After lunch and some rest, take an afternoon walk around the centre where you have opportunities to spot orangutan, hornbills, macaques, sambar deer, and other wildlife. After dinner, go on a guided night walk to see nocturnal wildlife including civets, slow lorises, and moonrats, and varying species of frogs, vipers, and insects. Day 4: Nature & Wildlife Observation / Night Jungle Walk Start your day early with a morning walk to observe nature. After breakfast, you have the option to either embark on a guided trek or spend the morning relaxing before lunch. The afternoon calls for another trek through the ancient rainforest, tailored to your interests and fitness level. After dinner, you may opt for a night walk or safari drive to spot nocturnal wildlife. Day 5: Hike to Bukit Atur / Borneo Rainforest Lodge / Nature Trails / Canopy Walk / Night Safari Drive Begin your day before dawn, with an early morning drive or hike up Bukit Atur to catch the sun rising over the dense rainforest canopy (at additional fee). After breakfast, check out of Danum Valley Field Centre and transfer to Borneo Rainforest Lodge – 35km away, taking about 45 minutes to arrive. Upon arrival, check-in at Borneo Rainforest Lodge and have lunch. After a captivating slide presentation, explore nature trails and the canopy walkway before dinner. End your day with a night safari drive to observe nocturnal animals. Day 6: Jungle Trek / Kadazandusun Burial Site – Coffin Cliff / Jacuzzi Pool / Tubing in Danum River / Night Walk Embark on a morning jungle trek to Coffin Cliff and View Point, and take a dip in the natural jacuzzi pool – a refreshing start to your day! After lunch, you have the option to either venture out on an afternoon trek or go tubing down Danum River, if the weather permits.
