Michael

Michael is a Mule who arrived at Equine Advocates on July 22, 2026. Michael spent years working as a Pack Mule in Colorado. According to the information we have, he was purchased privately by someone in the eastern U.S. who wanted him for pleasure riding. However, Michael only wanted to be ridden in a pack of other equines as that is what he was used to. He ended up with a horse dealer and could have been sold at auction. We heard about his background and the work he did for all those years. We had the opportunity to help him, and as we did not want to see this kind and very sweet-tempered older Mule fall through the cracks, we immediately came to his rescue. We had Michael shipped to Cornell University Hospital for Animals for a wellness examination on July 12, 2026. After spending ten days in the hospital, Michael arrived at the sanctuary with another Mule named, Blondie (See her bio) on July 22, 2026. We had been under the impression that he was 14 years old, but his examining vet said he was at least 20 (which means they think he was born in 2006). Since all we had to go by was an estimated age for Michael, we will celebrate his birthday every year on July 12th, the day of his rescue purchase in 2026.
