Grape 90% Mourvedre, 10% Grenache. Tasting notes This is a model of Pibarnon's balanced, full-bodied, silky style: dark fruit and garrigue herbs on the nose, joined by the subtle licorice and spice notes that mark this terroir. On the palate it is youthfully bold on release, with the fine, dense Mourvedre tannins that need several years to soften into full complexity. Built as a genuine vin de garde, it is best approached with patience. More About The Winery Chateau de Pibarnon occupies the highest, northernmost point of the Bandol appellation, with vines planted on terraced restanques over an unusual seam of blue marl and limestone far older than the surrounding soils - a stony, nutrient-poor terroir that forces the vines to struggle and concentrates the fruit. Purchased and rebuilt from the mid-1970s by Comte Eric de Saint-Victor, the estate is now widely regarded by critics, including Wine Advocate, as one of Bandol's benchmark producers, with its flagship red considered one of the appellation's most age-worthy wines.
