I start without any preconception. I just begin without knowing where I will end up. Sure, there is always a kind of pen in my mind; there is always a kind of inner dialogue, which is why these drawings don’t try to register a certain reality, an object, a focus, or a theme. But, of course, somehow, subconsciously, there are things which preoccupie me, like cities, my room, guitars, music, and soundscapes.’ The graphic novel Evening Drawings is a collection of sketches and illustrations created over the past 15 years by architect Pero Puljiz (b. 1962, Imotski, Croatia). Puljiz studied architecture in Zagreb and Amsterdam. He was one of the founding partners of de Architekten Cie. Since 1992, he has designed a broad variety of award-winning projects and realized more than 30 buildings in the Netherlands and abroad. His work has been featured in numerous publications and magazines worldwide. The book Profession Architect (2002) served as an anti-manifesto for the work of de Architekten Cie. Different Repetitions is a monography featuring selected work by Peuljiz and his colleague Branimir Medić.
