Watchman Goby

Cryptocentrus cinctus The Watchman Goby is the understated gray form of a much-loved shrimp goby, with a warm gray-tan body, pale blue spotting, and an alert expression. It settles near a chosen burrow and becomes an engaging, dependable presence at the bottom of a peaceful reef aquarium. Place rockwork securely before adding sand so burrowing cannot destabilize it. A tightly fitted lid is important, especially while the goby is settling into a new territory. Feeding Offer small meaty foods such as mysis, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped marine fare, and quality sinking pellets. Make sure food reaches the goby’s territory rather than being taken entirely by faster midwater fish. Compatibility This goby suits peaceful community reefs and may form a fascinating partnership with a compatible pistol shrimp. Avoid housing multiple watchman gobies in tight quarters unless they are a confirmed pair. Good to know: Newly introduced fish may remain hidden while establishing a burrow. Once comfortable, they often sit in full view and watch activity around their chosen entrance.
