Farmer: Aurelio, Pedro, Juan, and Florencio Villatoro Origin: Guatemala Region: Hoja Blanca, Huehuetenango Farm: Various Altitude: 1500m - 1750m Processing: Washed Varietal: Bourbon, Caturra This coffee comes from: The Villatoro Family Blend comes from Hoja Blanca, a small community in the Huehuetenango region of western Guatemala. Known for its high elevations, cool mountain climate, and mineral-rich soils, Huehuetenango is one of the few coffee-growing regions in Guatemala where dry, warm winds help protect coffee during harvest. These unique conditions allow cherries to mature slowly, developing greater sweetness, complexity, and vibrant acidity. This coffee represents the combined efforts of four brothers, Aurelio, Pedro, Juan, and Florencio Villatoro, whose farms all trace back to land first cultivated by their father, Eleodoro Villatoro. Although each brother owns and manages his own farm, they share generations of knowledge and a commitment to producing exceptional coffee. Every lot is cared for from seed to export. Each family oversees cultivation, selective hand-picking, processing at their own wet mill, and careful drying before the coffee is delivered to the family's quality lab in Huehuetenango. There, the next generation evaluates each lot through cupping and quality analysis, ensuring consistency before the coffee continues to the dry mill in Guatemala City for final preparation and export. Blending coffees from each brother's farm creates a cup that highlights both the diversity of their individual farms and the shared growing conditions that define the region. The result is a coffee that reflects not only the terroir of Huehuetenango, but also the experience, collaboration, and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations of the Villatoro family. The Villatoro family farms with a long-term commitment to both their land and community. They nourish their coffee trees with compost made from recycled coffee cherry pulp, manage weeds by hand without herbicides, and carefully treat all processing water before it returns to the environment. They also preserve areas of native rainforest on their farm, protecting local biodiversity while stewarding the land for future generations.
