Technical OverviewEtch Primer contains an acid component that reacts with the metal surface as it dries, micro-etching it to form a chemical and mechanical bond. This is essential on galvanised iron and aluminium, which are too smooth and passive for standard primers to grip — without an etch primer, topcoats lift and flake. Apply a thin, even coat of Etch Primer and let it react and dry before over-coating with your undercoat or topcoat. Do not apply it too thickly — a thin etch coat gives the best adhesion. Follow with a metal primer or enamel for a full system.
