Fine Pashmina Ring (Palladar) Shawl — Stone Taupe, Tone-on-Tone Paisley
A fine Kashmiri pashmina ring shawl (Palladar) in stone taupe, handwoven from pashmina fine enough to pass whole through a finger ring, with a tone-on-tone paisley woven into the cloth itself. The name comes from the test. A Palladar is a shawl fine enough to be drawn whole through a finger ring — the traditional proof of fine Kashmiri pashmina. Yarn this fine breaks if the loom is pushed, so the weaving is slow and careful, and there is no shortcut to a cloth that passes. The ring is simply the proof. Pattern you only see in the light There is no embroidery here and no contrast colour. The paisleys, trailing vines and the deeper band at each end are woven in the same shade as the ground, so the design only appears where light catches the weave — and disappears again when it doesn't. A narrow lustrous stripe runs down both long edges. From across a room it reads as a plain shawl; up close it is anything but. The colour Stone taupe sits between grey and soft brown, with a faint silvery sheen from the weave. It is a quiet neutral that goes over almost anything, and the reason the tone-on-tone pattern works — any darker and it would hide, any lighter and it would wash out. Details Ultra-fine Kashmiri pashmina Plain ring shawl with a self-coloured paisley-and-vine weave and lustrous edge stripes Passes through a finger ring Approx. 40" × 80" Dry clean only — store folded and away from direct light Handwoven in Kashmir Handwoven cloth varies very slightly along its length; any faint unevenness you can see against the light is the mark of the handloom, not a fault.
